McClintock notched his first stakes win at Randwick today with an exciting all the way victory in the $125,000 Group Three Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m).
In holding out fellow Magic Millions graduate Walking Or Dancing, McClintock scored a deserved stakes success after minor placings in his past two efforts - the Concorde Stakes and Newcastle Newmarket.
The win was the first at group level for trainer Mark De Montfort, a former top class Sydney rider.
De Montfort said he was delighted with how Glyn Schofield handled the son of King Cugat during the race.
"He tries too hard in the middle of his races but Glyn rode him beautifully so it was great."
"He was my first Randwick winner and now my first Group winner."
De Montfort said he was enjoying training and hoped McClintock would continue to grow his list of feature victories.
"I don't miss the riding, I hoed down two hot dogs before the race, so I feel pretty good and it certainly helps to get results like this."
Winning rider Glyn Schofield was delighted with the performance and praised his mount for a tough win in tricky conditions for leaders.
"The key is to not get him switched on," Schofield reported. "He is a very easy to switch on, you only have to move a little bit and he is on his way."
"I think the field was letting him dictate from out in front today because it is hard to win out there with the wind, so this horse has done well."
Schofield said he had no reason to worry during the race - always happy with how his charge travelled.
"He gave me a good ride. He always felt like he was in control. When we topped the rise he gave a good kick."
A graduate of the 2006 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, McClintock is raced by retail supremo and outstanding Australian breeder Gerry Harvey.
With his group victory, McClintock boosted his record to five wins and nine minor placings from 18 starts and earnings of $299,750. Not bad for a horse who could have been yours for just $30,000.
McClintock is the 13th stakes winner for his sire, Kingmambo's classy son King Cugat.
His headline act to date has been the former top Mark Kavanagh trained mare Devil Moon - ironically a graduate also of the Adelaide Yearling Sale - albeit twelve months earlier than McClintock.
McClintock's dam, the lightly raced Danzero mare She's Sweet, is a half sister to eight winners including the stakes performers Little Pattie and Silver Arch.
