THE BEST FILLY FROM BARAMUL STUD SINCE CITIUS
Lotteria, the 3yo filly who maintained her unbeaten record when successful in the 2005 Gr 2 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Warwick Farm could be the best filly to come off the Baramul Stud in the Widden Valley since Citius laid claim to being a queen of the turf up to 1600m nearly 40 years ago.
A daughter of the immortal Star Kingdom bred by the then owner of Baramul Stud, Alfred Ellison, Citius won nine races including four Group 1s, the VRC Sires' Produce Stakes, Lightning Stakes in new track record time MRC Oakleigh Plate and AJC Doncaster Hcp. In addition she finished second in the MRC Merson Cooper Stakes and third in the VRC Newmarket, MRC Thousand Guineas, BATC Doomben 10,000, STC Golden Slipper and AJC Champagne Stakes.

She was possibly more brilliant than Lotteria, although one of the most awesome efforts of the 2004 spring was the latter filly's seven lengths victory at only her fourth race start in the Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick.
To aid that, she has a stoutly bred dam in Rose Reward, a good race filly up to 2000m by Sir Tristram and from Gypsy Reward, a Zamazaan mare who won at this distance and who was a sister to AJC Oaks winner Starzaan, a three quarter sister to Caulfield Cup and two times Adelaide Cup winner Lord Reims and a half sister to Perth Cup winner Rocket Racer.
Bellota the third dam of Lotteria was a very good New Zealand filly by Oakville, a winner up to 3200m in England. Bellota won 10 races including the Avondale Cup and MRC Coongy Hcp, finished second in the VRC George Adams Hcp, MRC Toorak Hcp and New Zealand's Great Northern Oaks and third in the Moonee Valley Cox Plate.
Lotteria is bred and raced by Gerry Harvey, who acquired Baramul Stud five years ago and who with water conservation guru Peter Andrews is transforming it into a breeding complex undreamed of by previous owners.
Also the breeder of Sam Sung A Song, winner of the $100,000 Liverpool City Cup on the same Warwick Farm program on which Lotteria was successful, and producer at Baramul of Savabeel, Polar Success, Arlington Road, World Peace and Into The Night, Harvey has put together the second biggest broodmare band in Australia, surpassed only by the Ingham's Woodland Stud, with the dams of Savabeel, World Peace and Lotteria being included among about 280 mares he has in the paddocks at Baramul.
The stud is standing the good Marscay stallion Reenact and sends mares out to many of Australia's most fashionable sires.
